On Armed Forces Remembrance Day, President Buhari pays tribute to fallen heroes.

In Abuja on Saturday, President Muhammadu Buhari led Nigerians in paying tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes as part of the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day commemoration.

When the President unveiled the remembrance emblem at the presidential villa in Abuja on October 28, 2021, the commemorative activities officially began.

The National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja hosted a memorial Christian service on Sunday, and the National Mosque in Abuja hosted a special Islamic service and prayers on Friday. Both services were held in the capital.

The President inspected a Guard of Honour, which was mounted by detachments of the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Air Force, and the Nigerian Legion, during Saturday’s ceremony, which took place at the National Arcade, which is located opposite the Eagle Square in the Three Arms Zone.

In addition, he laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as a final act of respect for the fallen heroes who gave their lives in the name of world peace and the preservation of the nation’s territorial integrity.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Ahmad Lawan, and House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila were among those who laid wreaths at the memorial.

Justice Ibrahim Tanko, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Mallam Mohammed Bello, who was represented by Hajia Ramatu Aliyu, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the Minister of Defence, Maj. Gen. Bashir Salihi Magashi (Rtd), all laid wreaths at the ceremony.

Gen. Lucky Irabor, the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, and the Nigerian Legion were among those who attended the ceremony as well.

During the event, three volleys of 21-gun salutes were fired, followed by the president signing the Remembrance Day anniversary register in the presence of the heads of government from all three branches of government, military chiefs, and other high-ranking representatives from the government.

Following that, President Buhari released white pigeons to symbolize the harmony that had been achieved at the venue and throughout the country.
